Science Experiment: Jesus Washes Our Sins Away
Concluding twelvemonth in one of our Sun School classes, ane of the teachers showed united states of america a demonstration very similar to this one. Not only did I call back information technology was amazing from a scientific discipline perspective, I also idea it was perfect for demonstrating the work of Jesus in our lives. After scouring the internet, I constitute this tutorial and purchased the necessary supplies…and so forgot nearly it until nearly a yr after. :)
The experiment is simply a chemical reaction…but the demonstration is meant to show in a visual fashion what happens internally when we accept Jesus into our lives.
Science Experiment: Jesus Washes Our Sins Away
This object lesson is perfect for demonstrating the power of Jesus in our lives. All of u.s.a. sin and nosotros are tainted beyond repair, fifty-fifty when we endeavor ourselves to fight off the "sin that then easily entangles." It is only when we allow Jesus to come into our lives that we are cleansed and purified. In one case Jesus lives in us, sin can no longer tarnish us in the eyes of God. The blood that Jesus shed on the cross washes united states white as snow.
PLEASE Notation: At that place are dangerous chemicals involved in this sit-in, so please utilise extreme caution and make sure to read the labels on each of the chemicals involved before attempting this at home (don't let whatever of the chemicals come in contact with your skin, eyes, or be ingested). Do not let young children help with this demonstration.
Here'southward what you'll need for this sit-in:
ane glass jar
Straw Dispenser
Household Ammonia (found in the cleaning aisle)
White Vinegar
Bottle of Phenolphthalein (I ordered ours on Amazon)
Mucilaginous-back Craft Foam in whatever color
1. Cutting out 2 identical cross shapes from your mucilaginous-backed arts and crafts foam.
2. Peel off the newspaper backing from the craft foam and stick the two sides together on the pole of the straw dispenser.
iii. Fill the bottom of the harbinger dispenser with white vinegar.
4. Fill up your straw dispenser nearly halfway with water and and then add a squirt (or 5-6 drops) of your phenolphthalein.
Non pictured: Fill up your other glass jar about 1/iii with water and add a splash of ammonia.
five. Use return address labels to label each jar: the jar with ammonia and h2o "sin" and the jar with phenolphthalein and water "you".
For the demonstration: Pour the "sin" into the "you lot" jar and it will turn pink. Pour some of the pinkish back into the sin jar (in preparation for the next step).
Carefully identify the straw dispenser chapeau (with the vinegar in the bottom) into the "yous" jar and spotter as information technology changes back to clear.
Effort to cascade sin into the "you" bottle with the cross yet in it and it will change to clear, representing that sin tin can no longer taint us in the eyes of God…Jesus' life was a sacrifice that cleanses united states once and for all.
"But if nosotros walk in the light, every bit he is in the light, we have fellowship with one some other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies the states from all sin." -1 John i:7

The Scientific discipline Backside It: Phenolphthalein is an acid/base indicator that turns pink in the presence of bases. Ammonia is a base of operations. When the ammonia and phenolphthalein mix, information technology creates a chemical reaction that turns the liquid pink. The vinegar in the base of operations of the straw dispenser acts as an acid neutralizer and neutralizes the reaction, turning information technology clear again.
